Dejan Bodiroga is a Serbian basketball executive and former professional player who is best known for his career with teams like Proleter, Olimpia Milano, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Virtus Roma, and for being the Chairman of the Euroleague Basketball. Bodiroga is known for his large set of accomplishments as a player such as being the 1998 FIBA World Cup MVP, 1998-1999 Greek League MVP, 2001-2002 Euroleague Top 16 MVP, 2x Euroleague Final Four MVP in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, 2x Yugoslavian Athlete of the Year in 1998 and 2002, etc.
During his time, he won three golden medals at the 1995, 1997 and 2001 European Championships with the national team of Yugoslavia.

Dejan Bodiroga Facts

He began his basketball journey at Proleter Zrenjanin in 1989.

At the age of 15, Bodiroga was already 2.05 m tall.

Dejan shifted to Zadar at the age of 17.

He was about to leave basketball because of the Yugoslav wars.

Despite Bodiroga had offers from AEK and Olympiacos, he decided to continue his career at Stefanel Trieste, a team coached by Bogdan Tanjevic.

In his first year with Stefanel, Bodiroga averaged 21.3 points per game after playing 30 league matches.

He shifted to the Spanish side Real Madrid before the start of 1996-1997 basketball season. Bodiroga penned a deal worth 1 million dollars. At the time, Real was led by the Serbian trainer Zeljko Obradovic.

In the period from 1998 until 2002, Bodiroga competed for the Greek team Panathinaikos. He managed to lift the Euroleague trophy twice during the 1998-1999 and 2001-2002 seasons.

Dejan moved to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2002. There, he achieved two domestic league titles and 1 Euroleague title which was the first one in Barcelona’s history.

In 2007, he finished his basketball career playing for the Italian team Lottomatica Roma.

Bodiroga officially retired from professional basketball on June 8, 2007.

In June 2007, he became the general manager of Lottomatica Roma. Dejan left his position after two years in June 2009.

Dejan Bodiroga is the second cousin of the famous Croatian basketball player Drazen Petrovic. Drazen lost his life in a car accident on June 7, 1993.

Dejan is one of the founders of the Group Seven Children’s Foundation.
